Law firms’ dress code is loosening

Today’s lawyers work in jeans, sweatpants or shorts and a T-shirt, and wear formal office attire when they have to go to the office or participate in an important video conference call.

At the same time, clients have also started spending a lot of time working from home, and they have also relaxed their dress codes, according to the California law firm.

So, you also have clients who have not only relaxed their dress code, but have loosened their expectations of how lawyers should dress. This means that even with a video conference call, there is a consensus between the two parties that the dress code will not be as formal as in the office.

The impact of working from home is not limited to those working entirely or partially from home. Regardless of work patterns, the spirit of the era clearly influenced the way people dress. Law firms do not exist in isolation, they are part of this great sociocultural tapestry, and they are and will be influenced by this broad movement towards loose dress codes.

In a Lawyers Weekly poll, 57% of respondents believe formal dress codes are a thing of the past. However, there are many lawyers who do not see the trend as widespread as it first appears. They argue that legal practice depends largely on a person’s ability to make the right impression, so formal dress codes will still come into play, at least in high-impact scenarios.
