DIY Curtain Roman Shades

DIY Curtain Roman Shades

I love the idea of this window treatment and can’t wait to try it on our room windows. The drawstring blinds really drive me nuts, we have so many windows in our living room, it looks awkward, the kids love to play with the string and tangle everything up, and cleaning the blinds from dust is another pain, Time consuming and brain-intensive – a pain. It would be better to replace the wood shutters with wider slats, but the cost is too high! This very simple trick for upgrading blinds to roman shades is easy and requires no sewing with mod podge magics.

Main supplies you will need:

  • blinds
  • module
  • upholstery fabric
  • Scissors
  • clothespins or kitchen clips
  • iron.

Here are the short steps:

Choose a piece of fabric (preferably filter fabric), be sure to measure the length beforehand. Lay the blinds flat on the floor. Use scissors to cut away any ladder wires that are on either side of the shutter. Separate some of the slats and cover the window completely, with each slat separated.

Spread the remaining slats you put on top of the fabric. Fold the two edges of the fabric around the batten and glue with mod podge. Secure the folded ends with clothespins or clips to keep the fabric from moving while it waits to dry.

The idea wasn’t new when the lady at 365 days 2 simplicity posted a step-by-step tutorial on her blog, but it was simply awesome, covering her kitchen windows with this genius fabric and mod podge combo idea. We’re seeing a lot of ideas for using mod podge on fabric projects all over the web these days, and it’s a great alternative to traditional sewing techniques. If you love the way words and images work as much as I do, head over to her blog to see all the details of her work.
