DIY fun sponge straw house (with photos)

DIY fun sponge straw house (with photos)

Making these little grass sponge houses will be so much fun for the kids and all the family! All you need is a kitchen sponge to make a house, sprinkle grass seeds on it, and watch it grow in your house! ! It would be great to add some green with this idea.

Supplies you may need for reference:

  • 4 new standard kitchen sponges
  • fast growing grass seeds
  • ruler and permanent marker
  • pointed scissors
  • Large plastic food storage containers as a greenhouse
  • Spray bottle
  • sewing needle (optional)

how:

  1. Wash a new sponge under running water and squeeze a few times. Let the sponge dry slightly.
  2. Draw the wall and yard shapes as shown.
  3. Cut out the shape. For the roof, insert the scissors into the sides of the blue sponge and cut along the centerline to create the hinge, being careful not to completely cut through the 2 pieces.
  4. Assemble the house.
  5. Spray the house with water, but don’t soak it. Then spread a thick layer of grass seed evenly over the roof and yard. If there are seeds rolling off the roof, pick them up with dry hands and patch up the exposed spots. Finally, lightly mist the seeds with water using an upward spray motion.
  6. Keep the house moist, warm, well lit, and mulched until the grass is well established, about two weeks. (To prevent mold, leave the plastic cover slightly ajar or poke a few holes in the top. You can remove the cover when your grass looks like it could be mowed.)
  7. With regular watering, your house can grow for weeks.
