Homemade Organic Apple Cider Vinegar

Homemade Organic Apple Cider Vinegar

Autumn is here, which is harvest time, what will you do with your apples? Apple cider vinegar might be the way to go! If you are going to add this vinegar to your food, it is important that it is natural and unprocessed. Thanks to Daily Nutrition Network for sharing the method of DIY apple cider vinegar at home, you can make your own vinegar! It’s easy and won’t cost you anything! Ferment some apples and your apple cider vinegar is ready!

Here are 2 ways to prepare your own organic vinegar. Use chopped apples in the first and whole apples in the second and you’re ready to go!

Method 1: Apple Crumble

Reserve the apple cores and peels for this apple cider vinegar preparation. Eat apples every day and save all the residue to make vinegar. This is the faster of the two methods.

Ingredients and Items

  • large bowl with wide mouth
  • Organic Apple Crumb
  • Cheesecloth (to protect the vinegar from dust, grime, and flies)

preparation process

  1. We all know that cut apples turn brown when left outdoors! So keep the debris out. Add them to the large bowl/pot once they are browned. Fill the jar with water. Continue to add more and more scrap every day.
  2. Wrap cheesecloth tightly over the bowl and place it in a warm, dark room. When you start to notice the contents start to thicken and a layer appears on top, let it sit there for a few days. Once you notice this, do not add any more apple crumbs.
  3. Now this may sound weird, but let the mixture sit for a month so it can go through the fermentation process! Once it’s 1 month old, taste it every day to see how firm it is. Once the desired strength is reached, strain the liquid from the bottle.
  4. Use a filter paper to remove any residue from the crumbs, as you will find some in the mixture.

Method 2: Whole Apples

If you’re impatient, I recommend using the scrap method to prepare your organic vinegar. The whole apple method needs more than half a year for the apples to ferment.

Ingredients and Items

  • Whole Apple (Organic) – 10
  • a big bowl
  • cheesecloth

The method is pretty much the same as for apple crumble. But it takes more time and effort.

  • Cut quarters from apples (do not peel)
  • put them out and make them brown
  • Put in a bowl and fill with water
  • Cover the bowl with cheesecloth
  • 6 months in a warm dark room

Check the mixture after 6 months and you will notice similar characteristics to the first method. Pour the liquid into a bowl and cover with cheesecloth. Ferment for another month.

This will give you organic and healthy apple cider vinegar!
