How to Consider Comfort on a Long-Haul Flight

Staying comfortable on a long flight isn’t easy—unless, of course, you’re prepared. From a cold cabin to a crying baby, you have to consider your comfort from every angle. Fortunately, that’s exactly what we did!

While it can seem overwhelming when your mind is filled with anxiously awaiting destinations, remember that the journey is as important as the destination and commit to it with equal enthusiasm!

1. Wear comfortable shoes

Shoes that are flat, non-slip, easy to slip on and won’t blister will be your lifesaver when going through security, crazy crowds and running safely to the gate. Finding flat, slip-resistant, and non-bubble sneakers for women is better than anything else.

Unless you’re going to the tropics, and you’re taking it easy and just want to pack sandals, definitely choose to pack more stylish or softer shoes like sandals – even if they’re the most comfortable sandals you’ve ever worn.

2. Wear thick, comfortable socks

If you take your shoes off, a good pair of (thick) socks will keep you incomparably comfortable and clean. Not only will this keep you warm and comfortable, but it will allow you to move around the cabin without shoes and, more importantly, keep your feet free of dirt.

You’ll be walking an extra mile on vacation, so go the extra mile to protect your veins and consider a pair of compression stockings. The longer you fly, the longer you sit, so reduce your chances of developing blood clots!

3. Don’t dry yourself out

Airplane conditions can be very dry and your eyes, lips and skin can start to feel dry after a few hours, so consider keeping the following items within easy reach:

⦁ Lip balm for chapped lips.
⦁ If you struggle with irritated or dry eyes, take eye drops.
⦁ Face washcloth, micellar water, face cream, lotion or other – whatever your favorite facial rejuvenation cream is! Not only will this keep you from feeling dry, but it will leave you looking refreshed when you arrive at your destination!

4. Predicting temperature changes

Airplanes are known for staying cool, but they can go from cold to hot or hot to cold without warning. Combat it comfortably and conveniently, our best advice? A simple blanket scarf that can be put to good use or switched back as needed. As an added bonus, it can also be bunched up and used as a great pillow!

5. Make aerial medication easy

Products like small, discreet pill organizers and even water bottles with built-in pill organizers already exist—if you need to take your meds in mid-air, you probably should have one!

6. Keep the blood flowing

The longer the flight, the longer the sitting. The longer you sit, the higher your risk of blood clots. That’s why it’s recommended that you get up from your seat every two hours and stretch your legs to get your blood flowing. If you don’t want to put on and lace up your cute ankle boots or kick your legs again, you’ll be thankful you brought those thick socks from above!

7. Escape the environment as much as possible

Sleep, relax, read, watch a movie or work as much as possible. Because while we hate to say it, there’s not much point in trying to embrace the environment and immerse yourself in it. To effectively escape your environment, consider:

Use noise-canceling headphones For any of the above options – and save some money by not having to buy an in-flight headset!
Bring an e-reader or become an IRL reader。 While an e-reader is undoubtedly the smarter choice when traveling, we’d never argue with a traditional paper book!
Carry flexible tablet/phone holder – because there’s nothing like having to fight a burn on your arm to hold it up in front of yourself for hours.
Carry power bank Because if your phone, tablet or computer dies, there’s no escape – and you won’t be able to hail a car or look up directions when you land!
use blindfold Can help you fall asleep, relax, think and ultimately escape!

8. Avoid alcohol

While it may be tempting to drink alcohol to promote sleep, especially if you’re not ready to escape your situation and are bored, you should definitely avoid alcohol. Instead, drink plenty of water and eat quality snacks if you plan to stave off fatigue and overcome possible jet lag.

9. Understand what accessibility means

When it comes to having easy-to-reach items in your pocket or on your carry-on, that shouldn’t just be what it means. Just being part of the plane doesn’t always mean easy access, so consider something like a smaller toiletry bag or pencil case to keep your essentials on top of everything else in your bag or purse.

If you can find a small case with a see-through window or made entirely of see-through material, your efforts won’t go unnoticed when you reach for an item, and it’s really easy to access!

Thanks for any comfort you come across…

With all the tips above, you should be able to stay comfortable on a long flight. But don’t forget, it’s up to you to appreciate it! Even with your favorite comforter on the bed, a TV, and the snacks you usually crave, you probably don’t feel like being packed in a big metal box and flying around in the air with strangers.

Don’t forget to enjoy it as you relax around the blanket scarf, feel the plush socks on your feet, wear noise canceling headphones to drown out the sounds of other passengers around you and dream about your destination!
