How to Harvest 4 Square Feet of Potatoes
What vegetable waste might be in your kitchen? Mine were potatoes and all the sprouts were already growing in the bag with very little room to grow! Time to make more efficient use of the remaining space in your backyard! If you have a sunny corner that’s only two feet by two feet, this is all the space you need! Try growing potatoes in towers instead of the typical rows of mounds that take up a lot of real estate in your garden. It takes some planning, but the payoff is worth it. With all these DIY solutions, having your own garden on your balcony is so easy. One way to achieve this is through small vertical artisanal gardens suitable for growing 100 pounds of potatoes. Remember that each layer you plant must have its sides boarded up. Now, let them grow a little. When the vines are about 12 inches above the soil, it’s time to add another set of planks and fill the space with soil. Make sure you cover no more than one-third of the plant area. Do the same for each layer until you have finished the box. To harvest your potatoes, remove the screws from the bottom plate. Reach inside the box with your hands and grab your potatoes.
