Growing Roses from Slicing Potatoes Tutorial (Video)

We have many gardening projects and gardening tips. Do you know when to expand your rose garden? The best time to plant roses is throughout the fall and from late winter to early spring. Have you seen this method of growing roses in potatoes? At first glance this seems crazy to me, but it seems to work well. Pushing the bottom end into a small potato before planting rose cuttings will keep the cutting moist while it takes root, which is reasonable and worth a try for new homeowners to beautify your garden with roses!
Here are the directions:
- Dig a trench 6 inches (15 cm) deep; place an inch or two of sharp sand on the bottom.
- Choose a stem from the rose you want to propagate—about the size of a pencil.
- The incision should be about 9 inches (23 cm) long. Cut just below the bud at the base.
- Insert each cut so that two-thirds of it is buried, making sure its bottom is fully inserted into the sharp sand. Secure the sand around the base to exclude as much air as possible. The cuttings should be about 6 inches (15 cm) apart.
- Change the soil into the trench and hold it in place; do this without damaging the cuttings. Keep cuttings watered throughout the summer. By November, they should be rooted and ready to transplant.
