Here’s a guide to today’s attractive trends

The fashion world is changing so fast. Who has time to keep up? However, a few things are absolutely certain. As we went further, two things became apparent. First, as the 21st century is in full swing, the scope of nostalgia is expanding. The look of the ’90s and mid-2000s is reemerging. Next, as Gen Z ages, their unique styles and tastes are making more of their mark on the fashion world.

To see a showcase of these trends, just take a look at the recent Fashion Week event in Milan, Italy. Fendi, Prada, Dolce and Gabbana went all out on their runways. Each of these classic fashion houses offers some insight into the hottest trends and where the industry is headed.

1. Minimalism is obsolete

Just look at Machine Gun Kelly’s amazing performance on the Dolce and Gabbana show. The sheer luxury of his work shows that minimalism is in full force. The rap and rock star debuted two double-breasted suits, one black and one white. The decoration sets these pieces apart.

Kelly’s white west is decorated with elegant spikes, drawing inspiration from the punk movement of the late 1970s. Paired with a turtleneck, it’s perfect for his rock star. Black suits offset seriousness and beauty by adding a series of jewelry that attracts a lot of media coverage.

The minimalist approach is also reflected in new collections from brands like A-Cold-Wall and Blue Marble. Both labels put a similar amount of sparkle and glamour into their collections.

2. Size subversion

Think back to all the pillars of millennial fashion. Most designs from that era were fitted and designed to accentuate the features of the body. Slim fit has taken over the men’s fashion market, and skinny jeans are all the rage.

If menswear week is any indication, these trends appear to be fading. Brands such as Dolce, Gabbana and Prada have adopted the oversized look. Suddenly, boxy jackets, flares, and gratuitous down jackets seemed to be the norm.

A particularly noteworthy trend is the embrace of shoulder pads. Seemingly reminiscent of an ’80s sci-fi movie or Talking Heads music video, Dolce and Gabbana’s latest collection features plenty of padded shoulders and cropped jackets.

3. Pastel Colors

Everything in the contemporary market shows dramatic flair. The Gen Z ethos seems to need a statement piece. Thus, the use of color further demonstrates the acceptance of the minimalist aesthetic.

Instead of relying on softer palettes, today’s looks feature muted colors. Against a backdrop of deep shades of black and deep purple, today’s details take on an embrace of fluorescent green, daisy-yellow and rose-pink. See these embraces of floral hues in new collections from MSGM, Dsquared and Moschino.

It remains to be seen which trends will make their way into more mainstream and modern looking books. However, given the rapid rise of Gen Z, it’s safe to assume that this more extremist approach to fashion will soon be hitting the streets. The claim that future generations challenge previous generations is a natural cycle.

While it has yet to catch on in the popular imagination, the millennial era is drawing to a close. Gen Z is poised for momentum, eager to disrupt and break new ground.
