How has underwear developed in recent years?

To be fair, everything is changing. This is especially true in fashion, where designers need to mix something up to reignite sales. It is also closely related to how people imagine their lives at a given moment. This is quite normal, and in such an eventful moment in history we are currently living in, things are evolving across the board. Let’s take a closer look at underwear over the past twenty-five years.

some things never change

Before we find out what comes and goes, let’s first remind ourselves that some elements of underwear never change. At least, in terms of quality, style and elegance. Take Maison Lejaby’s French lingerie, for example. This lingerie designer brand has been providing lingerie to women for over 90 years.

Although they’ve adapted to their tastes, what has made Maison Lejaby a women’s must-have for nearly a century is their ability to provide high-quality products that make them feel confident and beautiful when they wear them. That’s what underwear is all about, and it hasn’t changed over the decades.

twenty-five years ago

To see the birth of the push-up bra, we have to go back 28 years to be accurate. It was then that the first commercial featuring Eva Herzigova was released. It says: “Hello boys,” which is enough of a message because the image speaks for itself.

Then, many models became famous for wearing this new bra, and Kate Moss was one of them. She’s the perfect model to endorse this new outfit, as she’s known to have tiny boobs. The text they used for her ad was also pretty straightforward: “Even I have cleavage.”

Women don’t have to spend any more time to start lining up for this great accessory that can make any woman look like she has bigger breasts than they actually are. This is a time when women want to look attractive. Underwear comes out of hiding and finds its way in the sun (or moonlight). Lingerie has become more sexy.

New lingerie designer brands have emerged to support this trend. It lasted more than two decades, thanks to events such as the Victoria’s Secret annual fashion show, which was televised live. But in 2017, Edited noticed a change in that trend. In the US, UK and Europe, push-up bra sales have dropped by 50% in a year. Padded bras are also down, down 20 percent. It started a new trend: wanting to feel comfortable.

today

Mindsets are changing rapidly as we slowly try to emerge from a global pandemic. Combined with the changes that took place in 2017, we are now seeing women of all ages wanting to feel more like themselves rather than trying to be sexy.

Women want to be respected, not just through image. Equality has become a key word in society, and for women, it starts with wearing comfortably.
