13 Cute Bat Crafts for Halloween
When it comes to themed crafts and holiday DIYs, Halloween is one of the best ideas of the year. In fact, there are so many great DIY opportunities this time of year that I had to narrow my category down to “The Bat” in order to make a list that wouldn’t completely overwhelm the choices!

1. Egg carton bats and ghosts

OK, technically this tutorial also shows you how to make ghosts, but look how cute these little cardboard bats are! However, they aren’t just made from any old cardboard. Zing Zing Tree recommends using a diced egg carton as the natural shape of the side of the carton where the egg cups sit is already perfectly shaped. Paint the bat black, add gooey eyes, and voila!
2. Pom Pom Bat

Are you an avid knitter and always have a steady supply of spare yarn? Then you’re probably no stranger to making pom-poms with the ends of your yarn! Around Halloween, however, you can take your pom-poms a step further with some felt wings and some gooey eyes and turn them into cute little bats, as Red Ted Art does here.
3. Conk Bat Pencil Head

Do you have a Buckeye in your backyard or a park near your home? Then you’ve got everything you need to make these cute little bats by Red Ted Art! Attach some gooey eyes and some foam ears and wings, then follow the tutorial to turn your night critter into a pencil head.

Toilet paper crafts are some of my favorite projects because they’re easy and cheap to make, but they’re still fun. These little bats hanging upside down are super cute too! See how El Hadad e Papel painted each roll and folded it into a bat with ears, then attached the pipe cleaner feet for a better grip when hanging!
5. Black Felt Pencil Tip

Do you love the idea of a bat pencil topper, but don’t have access to a buckeye near where you live? Try these little felt bats! They are simple to make and actually easier to write on than the two heavy conquests on the end of a pencil or pen. Twig and Toadstool show you how they’re done in just a few simple steps.

Does your family drink a lot of soda or bottled beverages, which means you always have lids running around in your recycling bin? Save them and use them to craft and decorate! I can’t fathom how cute or simple these little bats from Love and Lollipop are. Roll up a strip of paper on each side for wings, stick some page reinforcements on top of the lid for eyes, and consider sticking a magnetic strip on the back to make cute little Halloween fridge magnets!
7. A bat-themed Halloween matching game

Happy Hooligans will guide you through the process of cutting out cute little bat shapes from decorative paper in a variety of different patterns to make a Halloween matching game for kids! Select the blank paper on the back and turn all the bats over and arrange them in a row so the patterned sides don’t show. Have your child play the classic memory game, flipping two bats at a time, trying to remember where they previously saw patterns in the grid until they match all pattern pairs.

All of these little bat crafts are super cute, but I’ve always been a big fan of the ones that move or work like the real thing. That’s why this little bat craft from Spoonful caught my attention so strongly! Their tutorial shows you how to use brad stitches to create wings that actually flap as you pull the cord.
9. Coffee filters and pom-pom sticks

Do you remember the little pom-pom bats we mentioned earlier on this list? Well, you can also make bats out of bigger, fluffy pom-poms! However, if the bat is to be bigger, the wings should be bigger too! Buggie and Jelly Bean recommend using a coffee filter that you’ve already practiced with “watercolor” painting techniques, just for extra fun!
10. Bat Finger Puppets

When it comes to crafting, foam is an amazing tool because you can make so many things with it. One of my favorite ideas on this list is these little bat-shaped finger puppets. 11. Paper Cup Bat Candy Basket

Are your kids small enough that they won’t be walking around trick-or-treating for long, and they won’t actually carry their own candy bag? At least make them feel like they have the full big-kid experience by helping them make cute little bat-shaped candy cups with handles so they can collect a little candy on their own, even if the bucket is only the size of a paper cup. Origami is one of my favorite crafting techniques! These little bats are a great idea for kids who are up for the challenge of learning where to fold and flip their paper, but they’re still easy enough that it’s fun, not frustrating. The learning layer ensures this. Don’t forget to finish them off with gooey eyes and teeth!
