Clever ways to keep your desk organized

Whether you’re working in an office or from home, one of the best ways to stay productive is to make sure you have a great workspace. Giving yourself easy access to everything you need and freeing yourself from clutter will help you focus on the task at hand, not distractions.
Like anything else, it’s even more fun when you organize your desk area smartly. Here are some great DIY solutions to keep your desk organized!
Stacked Mason Jars
Let’s be honest: Mason jars are one of the most useful craft supplies. Use them to organize your desk (while looking very upgraded-chic), tilt them and stack them like a pyramid. Keep pens, pencils, markers, and other supplies on these new makeshift shelves.

binder
These handy little clips aren’t just for keeping files in binders! Try clipping them to the side of a table and run various wires through the handles. The thinner part of the loop will hold the ends of USB cables, laptop chargers, and phone chargers in place so the wires don’t get tangled under your desk!

Jelly Jar Storage
You know jars are great for storage, but you don’t want to crowd your desk with too much stuff, especially if you’ve made a mason jar pyramid. For desks with shelves, you can create space-efficient extra storage by screwing the lids of several jelly jars to the bottom of the shelf. Fill jars with small things like paper clips or thumbtacks and turn them into lids so they hang securely and keep things inside!

magazine rack
Not only are these great for storing magazines, they’re great for storing! Arrange several magazine racks on your desk or on the shelves above, and dedicate each magazine rack to the important stuff. Consider having a magazine rack for each class, or alphabetize the files in it.

Cereal box drawer divider
Does your desk drawer look like a tornado? Cut out the bottoms of cereal boxes of different sizes and cover them with paper backing, wallpaper, or construction paper in fun colors and patterns. Arrange them like Tetris on your desk and use each little box to hold something. These dividers keep your pencils, pens, scissors, etc. from rolling around when you open and close the drawers.

“Hidden” desk
Are you working from home in a tiny apartment? Perhaps your best way to organize is to hide your entire desk when not in use! Put two bookcases of the same size together and hinge them to one side. Put the back of a bookcase against the wall, but make sure there is enough room in the front and sides for it to open. Use one of the bookcases as the main worktop and the shelf on the other side for storage!

Hanging recycled storage bins
If you’re like us, before you put plastic containers like shampoo, lotion, and Lysol wipe bottles in the recycling bin, you can’t help but think about how useful they might be. Why not actually use them? Cut them into hanging storage bins to keep your desk top cluttered!

If you know someone who is doing home improvement, check what they’re going to dispose of before they drag it to the junkyard. If you can grab an old window frame, all you need is some cork board, some chalkboard paint, and some barbed wire to make yourself a multipurpose note board!
