How to make a seamless blanket to keep warm this winter

🖥️

Not knowing how to sew doesn’t mean you have to avoid DIY projects involving fabric! You might have a hard time finding patterns for seamless garments, but there are plenty of other items that allow you to skip needlework.

It’s still cold at this time of year, and it’s still cold inside at night. Why don’t you make yourself easy, seamless blanket When you’re ready to curl up and read a good book? That’s it!

step 1:

Choose your material. It’s winter, so you’re going to want something soft and warm. This particular method works really well with wool, so next time you visit the fabric store, feel free to get a feel for these options!

Step 2:

Choose your color or pattern. This seamless method is a great opportunity to choose two different wools so your blanket can be reversible!

Step 3:

Measure how much wool you need. For small throws, baby blankets, or pet beds, you’ll only need about two yards. For adults, ask the supplier to cut more for you, depending on how big you want the blanket to be.

Step 4:

Gather your other supplies. Even if the blanket is seamless, you’ll still need good fabric scissors and ruler or a rotary cutter and cutting mat.

Step 5:

Take two pieces of fabric and stack them on top of each other so that the edges line up neatly. Fleece has a “dark” side and a soft side (as do many other fabrics), so make sure the good side of each garment is facing out.

Step 6:

In each of the four corners, cut a 4″ by 4″ square from your layered fleece. Make sure they stay lined up around the edges.

Step 7:

Cut fringe strips around the entire blanket, keeping the length of the strips even on each edge. Use your ruler to measure each strip about 1 inch wide and 4 inches long. Remember: measure twice, cut once! If you want the edge of the blanket to be very wobbly and move a lot, you can cut it a little longer, but keep in mind that this will erode the solid part of the blanket in the middle.

Step 8:

Time to start tying the knots! At each fringe, separate the two pieces of wool fringe and tie them together. You can make a simple double know or a solid square know and tie the right to the left first and then the left to the right. Whatever type of thing you decide to do, pull it tight, not so hard that the fleece stretches and thins.

Step 9:

You are all done! All you have to do now is decide whether to get the blanket as a gift or curl up with a good book and enjoy it yourself.

If you think this pattern is too simple, why not make the next one more fancy? Most seamless blankets are very similar, but there are ways to change them up a bit!

crimping

A slight pull on the edge of the blanket will turn the strips into small rolls of material rather than flat strips. But don’t push too hard! Wool stretch.

ring knot

Instead of tying each tassel into a knot, try making them into a loop! Cut the strips as you normally would, then fold up both pieces of each strip. Make a very small cut at the bottom of the straps, near where you fold them. Take the ends of both straps and push them together through the cut at the bottom. Each edge looks like a loop!

braided tassel

Maybe you’d rather not tie your tassels in a knot at all! If you have a crochet hook handy, consider “knitting” your fringe. Go around the edge of the blanket and fold each fringe up, making a small cut at the center mark. Start at the center of one side. Thread the crochet hook through the hole in one strip, then hook, and into the hole in the next strip. Keeping hooked, thread the second strip through the hole in the first. Now, repeat the process from your second bar, then move to your third bar.

Don’t worry about corners! Just keep running the strip through the hole. The edges should start to look like this:

Once you’ve braided all the way, you’ll find you’ve got two straps left. Tie them tightly together to hold the braid in place. Trim the ends of the knots to make them less visible.
