DIY Recycled Bath Towel Rug Tutorial

DIY Recycled Bath Towel Rug Tutorial

We’ve seen rugs weaved, weaved rugs out of recycled old T-shirts before, but never thought of putting old towels to good use. I used to cut them up for household cleaning and throw them away, which seemed like a great waste. The Sisters of the Wild West posted a tutorial on recycling an old tower into a mandala floral pattern rug for a bathroom or doorway, and it’s a great idea for giving old towels a new lease of life.

how:

  1. Cut towels into 1-inch strips.
  2. Take one strip of each of the three colors and sew the three ends together.
  3. Braid the three strips together.
  4. Once this strip is complete, sew three more strips to this braid and continue weaving. Continue to make a very long braid with the rest of the towel strips.
  5. Once you have your braids long enough, coil the braids into an oval shape on a flat surface.
  6. Starting in the center of the rug, sew the braids together so the rug doesn’t unravel.
