I like how cute this little guy is, and I know other people will do too!

If you want to use up more old plastic bottles, these upgraded plastic bottle Santa boots are a great addition to your holiday cloak or table centerpiece. This is another Santa Claus boot idea based on an empty bottle. It’s so cute to add to your holiday table!

What size bottle should I use?

When making this plastic bottle penguin, you can use any type of soda bottle. The way you make the penguin will help you decide what size soda bottle to use. Smaller bottles are suitable for smaller spaces, while larger bottles (such as 2 liter soda bottles) can be used to display penguins in larger spaces.

The thing to remember when choosing a bottle is that you want its “waist” to have a slight curve to make it look more natural. Of course, any bottle can be painted to create a cute penguin shape for your winter decoration.

What paint should I use on plastic bottles?

When painting plastic bottles, you want to make sure to use acrylic paint. Most other paints will not stick to the bottle. If you find that the paint is not sticking to the bottle, you can sand it slightly. This allows the paint to stick.

The exterior of the bottle is sprayed with white spray paint, but you can also use basic craft paint if you prefer. Spray paint really bases the bottle so that it is no longer translucent.

If you want this plastic bottle penguin to last longer, you can add a sealant to the top of the paint. There are different types, such as spray sealant or brushes like Mod Podge. This helps the paint not to chip and keep the process longer. In addition, it adds a little sparkle to the bottle, which is great when displayed.

What other ways can I decorate my penguin?

After drawing the penguin, you can add more decorations. Kids will like to add glitter, sequins or other interesting trinkets. Another idea is to add snow to the bottom of the penguin. What is a penguin without snow? You have to make sure not to add snow under the bottle. This may make the bottle difficult to stand.

If you feel more creative, you can use another soda bottle bottom to make it into an igloo. After cutting the bottle, make a flat edge along the cut edge, paint the bottle white and outline the blocks with black paint. Then add some snow around the igloo.

What can this be used for?

This cute plastic bottle penguin can be used for many things around the house.

  • Pencil Holder-Put it on the desk or in the office and use it as a pencil or pen holder. You can use it to place other items you might need on your desk.
  • Plant stand-kids can give it as a gift to everyone on their list. Depending on the type of plant you add to the plastic bottle penguin, you need to add drainage holes on the bottle. The plastic bottle penguin can also be used as a vase for cut flowers.
  • Decorations-You can place this penguin on the mantle, on a shelf or near a tree. You can add small decorative stones, such as those used for plants, to the bottom of the bottle to prevent it from falling.

Supplies needed

How to make a plastic bottle penguin

Cut two empty soda bottles in half. Discard the end of the nozzle.

Fold the bottles together to form a small bottle with ends on both sides.

Spray the bottle white and set it aside to dry.

After the bottle is completely dry, start using a black marker to mark the penguin’s body and outline.

Draw a black line about 1 inch below the “face” and 1/4 inch above the face.

Fill the lower half of the bottle with black paint, and then add black paint to the line above the open face you drew. Set it aside to dry.

After drying, use a black marker to draw two circles on the eyes.

Then there is the orange mark of the triangular nose.

Paint the top of the penguin blue.

Then use blue paint to add a scarf around the “neck” and hang it over the body, then set it aside to dry.

After drying, add a little shiny pipe cleaner around the top of the penguin at the bottom of the blue part to make a hat.

Glue the blue pompom on the top of the penguin.

Now, add a few white dots on the hat and scarf as decoration.

Set aside to dry before displaying on your mantle.
